Aims & Mission

Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment.

The European Society of Dirofilariosis and Angiostrongylosis (ESDA) is committed to educating the scientific community on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and public health implications associated with Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria repens and Angiostrongylus vasorum in both animals and humans.

The primary objectives of ESDA are:

  • Research – Advance scientific understanding of Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria repens, and Angiostrongylus infections across Europe.
  • Communication – Keep members, as well as medical and veterinary professionals, informed of the latest developments.
  • Standardization – Establish and promote standardized guidelines for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of Dirofilaria and Angiostrongylus infections throughout Europe.
  • Public Awareness – Educate pet owners, health professionals, and the general public on the risks associated with these parasites and the importance of preventive measures.

For these purposes the Society will organize workshops, seminars, meetings and will develop and maintain a website.

ESDA will also participate in scientific meetings where the subjects of dirofilariosis and angiostrongylosis are included.

We truly appreciate your support during ESDA Days and invite you to take the next step by becoming an ongoing part of ESDA’s mission—supporting the Society in all its endeavors.
